THE QUEER AND NOW.

Q-Fest is one of two flagship programs in the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center. Each year, a student cohort travels to San Francisco for a jam-packed two-week immersion. While living in the Castro District, students attend Frameline, San Francisco’s International LGBTQ+ Film Festival. Each student screens a minimum of 25 films a piece, documenting their experience via blogs, 180s (spontaneous, 3-minute reflections), and group projects. Once back in Eau Claire, the cohort begins the process of planning UW-Eau Claire’s own queer film festival: Q-Fest!

QUEERNESS ON FULL DISPLAY

In a politically charged environment of anti-queer, anti-trans, anti-drag, and anti-diversity, Q-Fest is more than simply a film festival. It is a celebration, an education, and the determination of Queer people of all sorts coming together to witness love, anger, anguish, actualization, and freedom in all forms. Whether in memories or in present-day life, Queerness remains at the forefront of programming to vitalize and remake resilience in the face of adversity.

FOR COMMUNITY BY COMMUNITY

Q-Fest is more than a week-long film festival—it’s a celebration of community. To put the festival on, student programmers set out on the task to weight campus needs and wants while giving something fresh and new to the Queer experience. With a diverse array of opinions and experiences, students are at the forefront of the Festival’s programming with various backgrounds, majors, tastes, and opinions. With staff and faculty support, the Q-Fest Cohort goes above and beyond to bring the best of the best!
