Makayla Rhodes
Meet Makayla! Makayla is a third-year student studying Psychology and Sociology as a double major. While she has been at UWEC (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire) she has grown to be passionate about activism for black and brown students as well as Queer black and brown students on campus. During her time, she has been heavily involved with Multicultural Student Services by being an intern as well as working as an intern in the GSRC to help connect Black and Brown students and LGBTQIA+ students on issues containing intersectional thoughts and ideas. She has dedicated a lot of her work as an intern displaying these ideas in the form of events, conversations and generally creating an environment where everyone can thrive one way or another. Makayla also happens to be the president of Queer Trans People of Color on campus as well as on the e-board for the Black Student Union.
When she is not advocating for the student body, you can find her in her room playing on her Nintendo Switch with her favorite games including Fatal Frame and Pokémon or creating a new project with her hobbies of crocheting and sewing, all while her cat Oliver watches her lovingly. Makayla intends to go to graduate school to get her master's and PhD in Psychology and hopefully pursue a career in forensic psychology or work in cultural ethnography. She hopefully wishes to do more research into the effects of video games on real life scenarios. She looks forward to being able to smell the San Francisco air again and has a goal this year to visit the Golden Gate bridge for the first time as well as spend more time in Chinatown and culture rich spots in San Francisco.
