Content Advisory

At the forefront of the Q-Fest Film Festival, our mission is to provide a meaningful and well-curated film festival experience for all attendees. To do that, the Q-Fest cohort looks to “New Queer Cinema”-a term coined in 1992 that continues to be used today to define and describe a movement in queer themed independent filmmaking- as a guide post.

New Queer Cinema can push boundaries and challenge perspectives in various ways. In the films we showcase, this can be presented in scenes with difficult themes. In the purpose of showing art in its entirety and understanding a film outside of the screen, Q-Fest doesn’t stray away from showing films that can be difficult to watch. We strive to provide an experience worthwhile for all attendees, so we’ve provided a list of themes to help our attendees make decisions for their own wellbeing.

With that in mind, this list will never be perfect. Everyone has their own individual lived experience, and how a film reaches one person may be completely different to another. We encourage attendees to read the list of content warnings below and make the best decisions for themselves. If they need to leave the theatre at any time for whatever reason, we welcome and understand it.
