Frequently Asked Questions

Interested in learning more about the Q-Fest program? Take a look at some of our most frequently asked questions!

What is Q-Fest?

Q-Fest is a 5-day film festival hosted and programmed through the Gender-Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC) at UW-Eau Claire.

Does it cost anything?

Nope! The festival is free to all students, faculty, staff, and community members!

When and where is it?

October 15th to October 19th! All films will be screened throughout the day in the Woodland Theatre of Davies Student Center.

Is it just films?

No! Q-Fest screens feature-length films and short film series curated by the student cohort. We will also feature three student presentations on topics ranging from gender affirming care in San Francisco to the corporatization of pride!

Who plans the film festival?

The film festival is curated by a group of student programmers with the aid and support of Dr. Chris Jorgenson, the Executive Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Leadership; Kallie Copland, the Director of the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center; and Em Luebke, the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center’s Student Services Coordinator.

How are the films picked?

Each film is deliberately picked by the entire cohort. Upon returning from Frameline, the entire cohort spends a month discussing the films we have seen and finalizing Q-Fest’s film lineup. Some films are chosen unanimously, and some were chosen through long-winded, time-consuming debate—we get passionate about movies!

What are the films rated?

All Q-Fest Films come from the Frameline Film Festival. Most, if not all, of the films shown at Frameline have not been rated. Content warnings can be found before each film and a list of all content warnings can be found here.

What happens if I don’t go?

Then we’ll have to call up the menace running around Australia in a Santa Claus outfit. Kidding! That was a joke, and you’ll understand it if you go to the film festival!
