Q-Fest 2023 Blogs
ENDLESS STORIES TO SHARE
In their own words, the Q-Fest students detail the immersion experience through a series of blogs published right here. Through their writing, Student Programmers detail the before, the during, and the after of their two-week immersion encapsulating sparkling reflections of identity, challenging new sights and feelings, and the mesmeric narratives of film and culture. These blogs are pensive, personable, and political in experience as each student takes on the task to express the breadth and depth of Queerness that shapes and reshapes who they are.
Maybe This Is More Than A Trip
Quinn, Brett, and I went to the palace of the fine arts and saw the bridge today! Very touristy. It was really cool though.
Well-greased
The trip is nearing its end. I am a bit disappointed that the quality of the films I've seen has not improved as I had hoped. Too many “meh”s for me.
Let Me Impose a Few Things, and Then Some, but, Ultimately, Try to Confront Something Greater That Remarks Us as People but also as Individuals
… Yet as I walked, I relived memories through stained glass panes. Vibrant hues of blue and yellow, green and gold, turbulent oranges and reds, audacious yellows and pinks. Through one, I saw myself, small and young, a smile on my face and the reality that I wanted to step into my Mother’s high heels.
California Bears (and the lack thereof)
As you may already know, the state flag for California depicts a grizzly bear walking toward a red star. However, as stated by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the California grizzly went extinct in the 1920’s, and the only species of bear currently found in California is the black bear. Which begs the question, why does the California flag still have a grizzly bear on it?
Learning and Growing!
I’ve spent the entire summer trying to figure out what I wanted to write my last blog about. I didn’t know if I wanted to share more about my personal reflections post-San Francisco and how my perspectives on my identity have changed since the entire experience, or if I wanted to share more about the process of building this entire program for our students to enjoy. I think I want to share a little bit of both!
Definitely More Than A Trip
Hello dear reader,
It has been almost two months since my last update on all things Q fest. Things are starting to come together, and I feel like I’m doing something.
