5 PM | In The Summers

Two sisters, Violeta and Eva, visit their father, Vicente, every summer. As they grow and mature through the story, they come to realize that their dad is not the perfect man they thought they knew. While Violeta is reckoning with their queer identity and Eva coping with a lack of connection, together they remain each other’s rocks during the summers spent in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In this Hispanic chapter-based narrative feature, the good, the bad, and the ugly of Vicente are shown through his children’s lenses and the siblings learn to choose freedom from a love that may not be healthy for them.

Being hispanic and queer is complex; this film beautifully highlights all angles of that intersection!
